Louise O’Neill’s powerful novel Asking For It is being adapted for the stage.
The story focuses on a young woman named Emma and gives us an insight into rape culture in the digital age. It looks at consent, sexuality and public shaming.
The powerful story has won praise from critics worldwide and has been translated into several languages including Polish, Hungarian and Estonian.
Asking For It will now be made into a play and will be taking to the stage as early as next year.
It has been adapted by playwright Meadhbh McHugh and is set to be presented at the Everyman Theatre during the Midsummer festival in June 2018.
“I am beyond excited at the thought of seeing a stage adaptation of Asking For It, especially when it’s by a company as prestigious as Landmark Productions,” Louise said on Instagram.
“To ensure the staging of ‘Asking For It’ reaches as wide an audience as possible, the production will partner up with the Abbey Theatre, Cork’s Midsummer Festival, London’s Theatre Royal Stratford East and the Irish Arts Centre in New York.”
We can’t wait to see this compelling story on the stage.
