Looking to make plans? VIP has got you covered! Whether it’s something to do this weekend, or a date for the diary, read on for the most exciting releases…

Downton Abbey: A New Era
The sequel to the Downton Abbey movie is finally here! This time, the Crawley family goes on a grand journey to the South of France to uncover the mystery of the dowager countess’s newly inherited villa. As expected, it’s gloriously glamorous and packed with humour and fun. Catch it in cinemas now, as it has just come out!

Conversations with Friends
We cannot wait to tune into the tv adaptation of Sally Rooney’s novel, which airs on May 18 on RTE. Starring Irish actress Alison Oliver and US star Joe Alwyn, as well as Girls’ Jemima Kirke, we just know it’s going to be a hit.

Musical heaven
Smash-hit musical Singin’ In The Rain is coming to the Bord Gais Energy Theatre from May 31. Based on the classic film starring Gene Kelly, Donald O’Connor and Debbie Reynolds, you can expect colour, fast-footed routines and iconic songs. Also, get booking Waitress in the Bord Gais Energy Theatre now – running from June 7 to 18, this is its first ever UK & Ireland tour.

The hit show tells the story of Jenna, a waitress and expert pie-maker who dreams of some happiness in her life. VIP took part in the launch event last night, where we made some pies of our own in Dublin bakery Bread 41! Pie and musical theatre…it doesn’t get much better than that?

International Literature Festival
Running from 19-29 of May in Dublin, this is Ireland’s premium literary event, celebrating the very best of Irish and international writers. From fiction to foraging, poetry to painting, there is something for everyone. We particularly like the sound of Aoife Dooley’s event on May 26; the autistic author-illustrator will chat about her new graphic novel, Frankie’s World, and answer questions about fitting in and standing out.

New novel to cosy up with
Ruth & Pen, out now, is the fictional debut from Emilie Pine, the Irish author of the international bestseller Notes to Self. The plot is simple: one day, one city, two women: Ruth and Pen. The women don’t know each other, but they are asking the same questions, of how to be with others and how to be themselves, when the world doesn’t seem to be willing to make space for them.

Darkness Into Light
Have you signed up for this year’s event yet? Join Pieta House and Electric Ireland at sunrise on May 7 for Darkness Into Light to show support to those impacted by suicide and self harm, and to feel the hope that exists out there for anyone struggling with their mental health. If you miss the event, you can still show support by donating on pieta.ie

Book tickets to see Imelda May, STAT – the songstress will bring her Made To Love tour, in support of new album ’11 Past The Hour’, to Vicar Street on May 13, 14, 15. Click to ticketmaster.ie!

This is a 360 degree digital art experience which invites visitors to step into more than 300 of Van Gogh’s sketches, drawings, and paintings by using
floor-to-ceiling large scale digital projection. It will run from May 16 to August 4, but tickets are available to buy now on vangoghdublin.com.
