Pop star Samantha Mumba has offered to represent Ireland in the Eurovision in 2018 following disappointing results for the country this year.
And now, The Rubberbandits have too!
Last night’s Eurovision final saw Portugal win after Brendan Murray failed to make it past the semi-finals with his song Dying to Try on Thursday night. Our recent spell of bad luck in the singing competition has many people questioning where we are going wrong.
One such person was journalist Jennifer Gannon who wrote a piece in the Irish Times who included her own suggestions. Jennifer named none other than 90s pop star Samantha Mumba as the perfect candidate.
Much to her fans’ delight, Samantha shared the piece on twitter and added ‘I would LOVE to!’ This, of course, sent fans into overdrive with hundreds of people liking the tweet.
Comedy duo the Rubberbandits also offered to step up and sing for Ireland next year, but on one condition. The pair joked that they would do it only if they could sing Serge Gainsbourg’s song Chez Les Ye-Ye. They later added that they would do it if the nation worked with them on the song.
Somehow we think it might be more likely to see Samantha Mumba on stage next year than the Rubberbandits but we reckon they’d make a very interesting duet.
