Liam Neeson has opened up about the heartbreaking decision he was forced to make in the lead up to his wife, Natasha Richardson’s death. The actress sadly passed away in 2009, following a a skiing accident.
The mother-of-two died of blunt force trauma to the head cause by internal bleeding, five days after her initial accident.
Ballymena native Liam has now spoken about the agonising decision to take his wife off life support, after realising that she was brain dead.
Speaking to Loaded Magazine the actor said, “I went into her and I just told her I loved her. I said ‘Sweetie, you’re not going to come back from this’
“She and I had made a pact. If any of us got into a vegetative state we’d pull the plug. So when I saw her and saw all these tubes and stuff that was my immediate thought, ‘Ok, these tubes have to go. She’s gone.'”
The Taken star also admitted that Natasha’s death still doesn’t feel real to him, and he sometimes expects her to walk through the door.
“Her death was never real. It still kind of isn’t. There’s periods now when I hear the door opening, especially the first couple of years… anytime I hear that door opening, I still think I’m going to hear her,” he said.
