Sunday night’s Dancing with the Stars semi-final was quite the nail-biter, but for one celebrity it was sadly time for their journey to come to an end.
Yes, Kevin McGahern has officially hung up his dancing shoes after being eliminated from the reality competition, despite nearly surviving the dance-off against Suzanne Jackson.
“When I saw we were going up against Suzanne I was like, ‘Ah, that’s grand, were going out probably,” admitted Kevin.
“But I just said that I was going to give it my best dance and go out on a high note.”
And that’s exactly what the comedian did. Despite leaving on Sunday night’s show, the semi-final was the first time Kevin and Laura found themselves ins the dance-off, for which he thanks the public for.
“You don’t really know how the public will vote so you just try to focus on the dance. You try not to think of the votes or the scores,” he told VIP Magazine.
“But I was blown away by the public vote, especially last week when we were bottom of the scoreboard and we weren’t in the dance-off, so we must have got serious support.”
The Cavan native also praised dance partner, Laura Nolan for her constant support.
“I met an amazing person who I cannot say but good things about this woman. She is an incredible dancer, an incredible teacher and a friend.
“There were times when I needed emotional support and was really struggling with anxiety and performing. Laura sat me down and basically became a therapist and counsellor. I’m so grateful for that,” he added
As enjoyable as the experience was, Kevin couldn’t hide the fact that he was a little relieved to be out of the competition.
“I would be lying if I didn’t say there is a large part of me that thinks that is a relief,” he shared.
“It is such a stressful show and a huge amount of work goes into it so part of me is looking forward to not doing it. But I would have loved to have gotten to the final because myself and Laura have worked very hard.”
So, what exactly does Kevin plan on doing next?
“I’m looking forward to spending more time at home and spending more time doing nothing,” he shared.
Well deserved, we think!
