Julie Jay and Fred Cooke may just be Ireland’s most hilarious couple. Two comedians in one household is certainly a hoot.
We spent just a few hours with them and we’re pretty sure we left with a six pack from laughing so hard.
VIP Magazine sat down with the couple for our February issue which is on shelves nationwide right now.
We note that Julie’s Instagram profile says she is “a semi-retired comedian-múinteoir living in West Kerry, currently trying to get the spark back”.
“Like so many women, it’s been hard not to lose myself in motherhood a bit,” Julie tells us.
“Between living so far from Dublin and being a mammy, I have worried about getting left behind in comedy completely, and my confidence has taken a bit of a hit, but 2026 is the year I start brushing my hair again!”
But of course, she has Fred there to help her. Although they both joke that he’s not the most organised person!
We have to ask how they manage touring, podcasting and raising two small children, five-year-old Ted and two-year-old JJ.
“Not very well! Like most women I know who have jobs and kids it’s a constant feeling like you’re failing in some area of your life – usually more than one. At the moment it involves a lot of late nights and early mornings,” Julie tells us.
While Fred adds: “”Google Calendar is our saviour. Knowing each others dates three months in advance makes it easier to organise your own work. We often handed our oldest over to each other at a roundabout off the N7. I’m sure at one stage, Ted, our oldest, thought we were separated!”
