Despite initially sticking up a friendship in 2019, it wasn’t until sometime later that the pair began dating with Johhny proposing to his partner on Christmas Day in 2021.
Now, the actor has opened up about just how nervous he was when it came to popping that all-important question.
“It’s not something I thought I would ever do, to be honest with you,” Johnny admitted about marriage during an appearance on the Tis Yourself podcast with Nicola Bardon.
“Never! It happened by pure chance as well. We were up in Fields, Brenda said, ‘Oh that’s a lovely ring isn’t it?’ and I said, ‘Yeah, it’s lovely’.
“And I went home and thought oh this ring is pricey enough but, you know what, she’s amazing and she’s great.”
It wasn’t until Johny purchased the ring that he realised it was in fact an engagement ring!
“I remember the lady saying, ‘So tell us, how are you gonna do it? I was like, ‘How am I gonna do what?’.”
Despite the misunderstanding, Johnny inevitably decided to ask Brenda to marry him, which he did over the Christmas period of 2021 in front of Brenda’s family and his mother.
“I’ll never forget it as long as I live just eating Christmas dinner and going outside and pretty much puking my ring up. It was just so nerve-wracking,” he added with a laugh.
“But all jokes aside, we had a ball [at the wedding], it was brilliant.”
