It’s safe to say that Hamnet is the film on everyone’s lips.
It’s an adaptation of Maggie O’Farrell’s best-selling book, it has two incredible Irish actors at the helm, Paul Mescal and Jessie Buckley and it is directed by Academy Award-winner Chloe Zhao.
It truly is a recipe for success.
As the film has been screened at festivals around the globe, reviews are rolling in and they’re all saying the same thing.

This movie is set for Oscar glory!
The synopsis reads: “1580 England. Impoverished Latin tutor William Shakespeare meets free-spirited Agnes, and the pair, captivated by one another, strike up a torrid affair that leads to marriage and three children.
“Yet as Will pursues a budding theater career in far-away London, Agnes anchors the domestic sphere alone. When tragedy strikes, the couple’s once-unshakable bond is tested, but their shared experience sets the stage for the creation of Shakespeare’s timeless masterpiece, Hamlet.”
Social media has been flooded with people shouting Jessie Buckley’s praises from the rooftops and even saying that she will be the third Irish woman to be nominated for Best Leading Actress at the Oscars.
Saoirse Ronan and Ruth Negga have both been nominated in this category in the past.
Jessie Buckley just delivered the performance of a lifetime. I’ve never seen devastation, hopelessness and loss embodied so completely – I wanted to rip my heart out and hand it to her. The last 15 minutes of Hamnet made her eternal. The Oscar race isn’t close. She’s taking it. pic.twitter.com/HbywhPwhB9

I can’t describe the emotional impact this film has had on me.
Jessie Buckley is a force of nature. I can’t think of anyone that could surpass her for the Best Actress Oscar.

Chloé Zhao needs to take a bow. #Hamnet is phenomenal. The film floored me. It’s a breathtaking piece of filmmaking from start to finish. From the beautiful score to the sumptuous cinematography, the film is an emotional triumph.
Jessie Buckley deserves an Oscar for this. #LFF pic.twitter.com/PpoP94EtYv

HAMNET completely destroyed me. The hardest I’ve sobbed during a film in a long time. Portraying grief & healing afterwards in maybe the most beautiful, cathartic way I’ve seen before. Career best work from Jessie Buckley, Paul Mescal, and Chloe Zhao. My best of the year #TIFF pic.twitter.com/MUkwfTpwSu
