Jason O’Mara has shared the sweet reason why he moved home from LA after over two decades in America.

He settled in the States in the early noughties, however, now in a new stage of his life, he confessed that he was a bit homesick.

…and finding love here.

“My decisions to move back were more personal, really. I met someone here. Catherine Walker, an Irish actress, and we’re getting married next year, and my brother and sister, who were living abroad, have moved back, so we’re all here, and I have a niece and nephew now,” he tells VIP Magazine ahead of the release of his new show, These Sacred Vows.

“My own son is in his last year in college, and so it all kind of started to make sense. Really, it was kind of during the pandemic that I started to feel this way.”

He shares his son, David, with his ex-wife, Paige Turco. The couple split in 2017 after 14 years of marriage.

“I actually went to I went to Ireland to film the third season of Smother with Justine (Mitchell) and that was kind of when the penny started to drop. I was like, ‘I miss home. I think it’s time to go back’.

“It just took a few years for, you know, for to get in motion. Really, it takes some time. It was a big decision moving back, you know? I still have representation in LA and I still go for projects there.”

He confesses that he was receiving plenty of signs including “the fires in LA in January”.

So how did the Band of Brothers star meet his fiancé, Catherine? Well, he has to thank his sister for this!

“My sister said, ‘I have a friend who kind of fancies you’. Then I sent a very forward text,” he laughs.

“Initially, we were meeting for tea in Bewleys, which turned into dinner, which turned into a kiss by the Liffey and the rain, it does sound lovely, when you put it like that,” he muses.

The couple will say “I do” in 2027.
