James Patrice calls guards after receiving “terrifying” threat from online troll

James Patrice has opened up about a time he was forced to call the guards after receiving a “terrifying” threat from an online troll.

James, who is known for his alter ego “Malahide Woman” and several presenting gigs revealed how he once received a message from an online troll over the summer months while working on 98FM, covering Brian Dowling’s paternity leave.

Although this was not the first time James had received a nasty online message, this particular case felt different, which prompted him to report it to the guards

Speaking to The Irish Mirror, he said: “There was one guy messaging me. I was on the radio during the summer, and he was saying, ‘I’m sick of listening to you’.

“I probably shouldn’t say too much of what was in the message, but I went to the guards over it,” he added.

“The generic message definitely had homophobia to it and there was an element of a threat to it and that really did make me a bit nervous, but I went through all the right avenues.

“I reported it to the appropriate people in work and to the guards,” he continued.

James went on to say how it was all dealt with promptly, but you just never know how far someone might go.

“Everyone knows where the office is, he could be waiting outside for you when you come off air. You wouldn’t know. But 98FM dealt with it all very well. It was all fine.

“I’m sure people get multiple comments all the time, especially on bigger stations and bigger shows.

“It was just a little bit too personal.”

We’re glad it’s all sorted now!
