Muireann O’Connell has been open about the struggle to get on the property ladder.

Earlier this year, she confirmed that she and her “housemate” bought their first house together in Dublin. And she is literally beaming as she chats to VIP Magazine about her new home.

“There’s not a rug to be seen, there’s not a bit of furniture,” she jokes as she pans her camera around her new house.

“I feel lucky. I feel privileged. I feel honoured to be able to be sitting in my own house. It’s amazing. I never had home. Home has always been my parents’ house in Limerick.

“I was driving back from my mam’s a few weeks ago, and I was like, ‘Oh, I’m going home’. And it was the first time I was going to my house. I’ve never said I was going home, I always said that I was going back to Dublin.

“Now I think I might have to start wearing a bit of blue and navy and going to Croke Park!”

She jokes that she is “like a transition year in a woodwork class” as she has been trying her hand at some DIY around the house.

“The housemate comes home at six o’clock going, ‘What have you done?’,” she jokes.

Muireann is continuing to host Ireland AM alongside Alan Hughes and Tommy Bowe. She is also presenting Virgin Media’s new show, The Assembly which will air over the autumn period
