Roald Dahl’s beloved Matilda is getting a second chance at life as the stage musical is being adapted for the big screen.
And an Irish actress has landed the titular role!
In a sea of thousands, 12-year-old Alisha Weir was picked out and cast in the beloved property.
And now they have shared its first look at the upcoming all singing, all dancing extravaganza.
Alisha will star alongside Emma Thompson who plays the formidable headteacher Miss Trunchbull and Bond star Lashana Lynch as kind-hearted Miss Honey.
Yes, Emma has once again completely transformed for this terrifying role.
Meanwhile, acclaimed actors Stephen Graham and Andrea Riseborough play Matilda’s self-obsessed parents in the film.
It is certainly a star-studded affair.
Screenwriter Dennis Kelly has adapted Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical from the Tony and Olivier award-winning musical, with original music and lyrics by Tim Minchin.
The musical originally premiered on the West End debut over a decade ago in October 2011
In January of 2021, Alisha shared the casting news, announcing, with the help of her parents on social media, “I am delighted to be playing the role of ‘Matilda’ in Matilda the movie musical which will be on Netflix.
“I am so excited to get started !!! Thank you so much to everyone for all your nice comments I am so happy.”
Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical is released in cinemas across Ireland and the UK on 2 December.
Netflix will release the film across the world, bar Ireland and the UK, during the holiday season.
