Ireland’s song entry for this year’s Eurovision has been revealed – and we could be on to a winner with this one!

Former Hometown singer Brendan Murray is set to take to the stage in Kyiv, Ukraine this May to represent Ireland at the annual competition.

He will perform Dying to Try, which was penned by Swedish song writer Jörgen Elofsson and British song writer James Newman. The song was chosen from over 320 entries by a judging panel of “six industry professionals”.

It was love at first sound for Brendan when he heard the catchy song.

“When I first heard Dying To Try I instantly fell in love with it and knew it was the perfect song for me. I couldn’t wait to get into the studio to record it,” Brendan told RTÉ.

“My mam teared up the first time she heard it so that was a good start.”

Hometown’s former manager and Brendan’s Eurovision mentor, Louis Walsh thinks thinks we could be in with a chance of winning this year’s competition with this “stand out” song.

“When I first heard Dying To Try it really stood out from the other songs that were entered by songwriters from all over the world.” he said.

“I chose Brendan Murray because he is an amazing singer and his voice is so unique, I’ve never heard anyone like him before. The song and the singer are modern and contemporary and it’s a perfect combination for this years Eurovision in Kyiv.

“Ireland hasn’t won Eurovision since 1996 which is the same year that Brendan was born so perhaps that’s a lucky omen.”
