Irish singer-songwriter Imelda May has revealed how she has been finding life in lockdown. Speaking to The Irish Sun she shared that she finds herself switching between “two emotions” including being “fed up” and adapting to the “new normal.”

Like all of us some days are good and some are more difficult; “We’re all in it together and we’re all experiencing a huge amount of emotions.”

“I think certainly for myself and I think for a lot of people, the first few weeks you’re trying to carry on as normal and get things done and there’s a point where you kind of accept it.”

Many people will agree that there has been nice moments during lockdown as many of us have more downtime than usual;

“There’s a part of me at the moment that I’m enjoying some of this and I’ve accepted it and I’m taking time with myself and there’s part definitely that I’m enjoying.”

She also revealed that “there’s parts of it that I’m totally fed up with and I want back to normal. I flip between those two emotions, daily, hourly.”

However, the constant availability of social media has many of us feeling that we should be using this time to be more productive. Imelda it seems has been feeling this pressure too;

“I’ve not been productive, I was saying I’d get loads of stuff done and some people are getting things done but I think we’ve too many emotions going with things to be productive.”

“I’m giving myself a break for sure.”

Only last month the Irish star lost her beloved dog of 13 years, Alfie. Mourning her canine companion, Imelda said, “My heart is broken. My darling Alfie is gone from us.

“Darrel and I had to make the hardest decision to let him go. He died in our arms and wrapped in Iove. I kissed him and felt his breath on my cheek deepen then fade away. Oh the pain.”

She continued, “My boy, my rock, my companion, my joy… over 13 years of love. I keep sitting in his bed needing to inhale his lovely scent before it’s gone too.

“We’re distraught. Myself. Darrel, Violet, Katie, Niall, Michaela, neighbours, friends, family and all who fell in love with him… there are many!

“The day is empty. Rest in Peace my dearest darling Alfie. My Gent. I will love you forever.”

Our thoughts are with them all. The death of an adored family pet is never easy.
