Jessie Buckley could make history as the first Irish woman to win a Best Actress Oscar.
She has been the favourite to walk away with the Academy Award since Hamnet premiered last year.
The powerful film, which is based on Maggie O’Farrell’s emotional novel, has received eight nominations, including Best Film.
Of course, we’re all so proud of Jessie, but no one moreso than her mother, Marina Cassidy.

Speaking on Liveline on RTÉ Radio 1, Marina said: “I’m actually currently in work, so I didn’t hear it firsthand – somebody told me. I’m so proud of her because this is the culmination of a lifetime, years and years of work.
“It’s so wonderful that it’s been recognised now. I am just really thrilled. What an achievement for all of them.”
She went on to say: ” I’ve seen Hamnet several times and each time I just sit there I am in awe of the work, and I have to pinch myself and say that’s my little girl up there.

“I just marvel at how she and the rest of the cast make it so real and believable; you forget that you’re watching a movie. Jacobi Jupe and Paul [Mescal] . . . it’s such a release of emotion at the end of an intense piece of work.”
When Liveline host Kieran Cuddihy said that Jessie was so natural in Hamnet, her proud mam responded: “Absolutely and what does that say about what kind of person she is? She has remained herself, totally dedicated and committed to her artform, and I just think what a wonderful role model she is.”
Her mother works as music psychotherapist in palliative care.
