George McMahon has opened up about his adorable proposal.
The Fair City star proposed to his long-term love Rachel Smyth last week during a romantic meal and revealed there were some jitters.
The actor explained that he persuaded his girlfriend to come out to dinner with him the night before their baby Frankie’s christening.
And while he got Rachel mother’s permission, he was still quite nervous when the big moment came.
“The whole time I knew what was coming and I was necking back the wine out of nerves, and she was like, ‘Are you all right?’. I said, ‘Oh yeah, just thirsty’,” he told the Herald.
“Eventually, I plucked up the courage to ask her on the roof of the Marker and thankfully she said yes,” he added.
“So without raining on Frankie’s parade, we had a double celebration – Frankie’s christening party as well as our engagement party.”
George shared some adorable snaps from the big party, where they had lots to celebrate.

The new dad also revealed that although he picked out the ring himself, he got some subtle help from his wife to be.
“I went shopping for the ring myself but Rachel was very good at little pointers over the past couple of months, you know ‘this is the type of style I would like,'” he explained.
“She was very good pointing me in the right direction in terms of what she would like. Thankfully I picked up on the hints and she was really happy with the ring.”

George also explained that the couple is hoping to get married in Spain, where his mother lives.
“We will possibly go out [to Nerja] and do a small enough wedding but it will be more of a party than anything else. We are looking at somewhere in Spain next year.”
Congratulations to the happy couple!
There must be something in the water in the Fair City studios, as George’s on-screen on/off love interest Jenny Dixon (who plays Kerri-Ann) also got engaged this month.
