Lucy Kennedy reveals that she was hurt by the backlash from her episode of Living with Lucy in which she lived with Katie Hopkins.
The presenter admitted that she was concerned when show bosses recommended she live with the controversial personality.
“I did slightly panic when they suggested Katie,” Lucy told DJ Colm Hayes on Radio Nova.
The star explains that she shared a photo on Twitter of the pair to gauge reaction and she was upset to receive such a huge backlash.
“The first time we met we took a photo together and posted it on social media and one hour later I was crying in the room. I felt sick to my stomach, I got about 500 really nasty negative tweets.
“We had just taken the photo to see the reaction and it was pretty horrific.”
She added: “I wasn’t allowed to reply and public figures slagged me off too and after the show, these same figures were congratulating me.”
Lucy admitted it didn’t take long for Katie’s negativity to show, but they were restricted in what they could use for the episode.
“Katie is toxic and it came out so quickly but we couldn’t show all of it, legally we couldn’t air half the stuff.”
The 41-year-old did eventually confront Katie, branding her rude, but some viewers felt she left it too late.
“I felt great after it, it was our last meal together. But people have to remember I am a guest in their home, I had to pick my moment.”
Lucy reveals that she still gets comments from people on social media about the episode, despite it airing in October.
“Every time she tweeted anything negative I got tweets from people saying, ‘I can’t believe you lived with this’.
“I mean documentary maker Louis Theroux doesn’t get threats.”
