The new season of Peaky Blinders is just around the corner, and we’re already excited for what’s next to come!
Season five of the hugely popular BBC show will return with two episodes this Sunday and Monday, and Irish star Cillian Murphy has opened up about what we can expect from Thomas Shelby this season.
“There’s an incident that happens at the very beginning of episode 1, that they (The Shelby family) have no choice but to all regroup and they only work well together in the face of adversity. They don’t really work well when things are going grand” Cillian revealed The Dermot & Dave Show on Today FM.
“The threat that they’re faced with this series is very different. Last year it was the Mafia and that’s a very tangible, visible threat but this year it’s kind of economic and ideological and for Tommy, psychological”
“In this series, you’ll see that Lizzie (played by Natasha O’Keeffe) becomes a real powerhouse and really challenges Tommy’s leadership. She stands up to him brilliantly”
The Irish influence is clear to see on the hit series, and the IFTA winning actor says it’s only going to get bigger!
“The last series was directed by David Caffrey, this series is directed by Anthony Byrne so we’ve had two Irish directors in a row”
“This year we have Brian Gleeson. Brian is a wonderful actor, part of the Gleeson Dynasty”
“We have Charlie Murphy, Aidan Gillen and Ned Dennehy, by the end of it I want everyone in it to be Irish!
“I think Steve Knight just really like Irish actors. Some of the Irish actors in there aren’t playing Irish characters, they just happen to be great actors”
We can’t wait to tune in!
