Saoirse Ronan has admitted that she doesn’t like watching her own work.
The actress recently starred in the highly-praised Lady Bird, and says that she was nervous to see the finished piece.
The Carlow native admitted that she had to have a few drinks before she sat down to watch the film.
“I got my best mate to come with me. We were in London shooting another movie. I was so nervous.
“She came with me and we had exactly three glasses of white wine,” she told Pop Sugar.
“It was so funny as I’ve never had this experience…I never enjoy watching anything I’m in. I don’t get anything out of it. I’m not into it at all.”
However, the star reveals she was pleasantly surprised to find that she enjoyed the film objectively.
“And from the first frame, I’d been clutching her hand, and I started to slowly let go and lean forward and was so into it as an audience member. I’ve never had that experience before. It was fantastic.”
Lady Bird focuses on a high-school senior, played by Ronan and her turbulent relationship with her mother.
She explained that doing a film like this helps to give her an idea of what a normal young adult’s life is like.
“I wanted to go to college originally to be with kids my own age. That’s the great thing with films, it can give you an insight into a world you wish you were part of.”
The film currently has an impressive approval rating of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, making it one of the best-ever reviewed films on the site.
