Mikey Graham has opened up about losing his mother Sheila to a brain haemorrhage late last year.
The former Boyzone star revealed that he misses his mother ‘terribly’, following her sudden death on December 23rd 2017, and how he is still feeling her loss.
“I knew this was it as I drove to the hospital. That it was the end. It was such a strong feeling,” the singer told The Sun.
“When they got mum rushed to hospital, they found she had a bleed on her brain but because she had been on Warfarin they couldn’t operate because she wouldn’t have stopped bleeding.”
“There’s such an empty feeling in my mother’s house. Her picture is still on the wall, her shoes under the table, myself and the family aren’t ready to put them away. I miss her terribly.
“I’ve just come back from Asia with Boyzone, and she would have been ringing me all the time to see how I was — but there are no calls now.”
Mikey, who will be reuniting with his bandmates for the 2019 Boyzone Farewell tour, shared his fond memories with his mam, and reminisced over their close relationship.
“Every Thursday night, myself and my mother would have movie night,” he recalled.
“I’d pop up to see her with a bag of sweets and the latest DVD, and we’d sit and watch a film together.
“My mum loved that. They say when you lose your mother, you lose your best friend.
“My wife Karen has been a huge support but I can’t get used to losing my mother, and it’ll be a long time before I accept it as the new norm.
“My mother was a huge part of our lives, a wonderful high-spirited woman who wanted to live forever.”
