Hughie Maughan became the first celebrity to be booted off Dancing with the Stars, as the show held its first round of eliminations last night.
The former Big Brother star and his partner Emily Barker failed to secure a place on next week’s show with their performance of the waltz to What the World Needs Now Is Love by Will Young.
Hughie was in the bottom three along with model Thalia Heffernan and Operation Transformation’s Dr Eva Orsmond and tensions were high backstage before it was revealed that Hughie would be the first to leave the competition.
“I was just getting into it. I’m so sad to go home but I am glad that I got the opportunity,” Hughie said.
The tv star recently accused bosses of DWTS of trying to force him off prematurely after his fake tan incident on last week’s show.
A source close to the Dubliner said that he felt he was not getting as much promotion as other contestants on the show and that producers were embarrassed of him.
Speaking to the Irish Sun the source said, “Hughie thinks RTE want him eliminated from the competition so they don’t have to be embarrassed by the tan episode anymore. He thinks they are refusing him any advance publicity in the hope he gets voted off.”
