Model Holly Carpenter has spoken out this week about female empowerment and how women should focus on supporting one another, instead of tearing each other down.
Holly judged ‘best dressed’ at Ladies Day in Puchestown this week and in her column for the Herald, explained that while she enjoyed the experience, received some negative and nasty online comments about her own race day outfit.
“On Tuesday, I got a comment online from someone who didn’t like my race day outfit. When I looked at her Instagram, her profile was full of quotes about ‘being yourself’ and ‘loving who you are’, which I thought was funny seeing as she was slating me for doing just that,” she wrote.
Holly went on to say that she has been irritated lately with the tendency of women and girls to bring each other down instead of supporting each other.
“I think women should be focusing on building each other up and supporting one another rather than making bitchy remarks and judging each other’s life choices. We don’t all have to fit in the same category or the same-sized jeans.
“I used to be so worried about what people thought of me when I started out as a model, but as I get older I’ve realised that the less you care about other people’s opinions the happier you’ll be,” she said.
There was more controversy over outfits at Ladies Day this week, with people comparing Lottie Ryan’s dress to the one Kathryn Thomas wore on The Voice of Ireland.
Lottie opted to wear the guna in red, while Kathryn wore a navy version.
Fans took to social media in their droves to complement Lottie on her look, however a few weeks back, people slated Kathryn for wearing the exact same Self Portrait dress.
We think people should be taking a leaf out of Holly’s book on this one. Both ladies looked great.
