Saoirse Ronan scooped the top prize at last night’s Golden Globes.
The Irish actress won the award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy) for her role in Lady Bird.
The 23-year-old was hotly tipped for the prize, as she went up against the likes of Judi Dench and Margot Robbie.
It was a big night for Lady Bird, which also won Best Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy).
However, some film fans took issue with Saoirse’s win, because of the lack of recognition received by the film’s director.
Greta Gerwig directed the popular film, which received a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Fans felt that the director should have been recognised for her talents, considering the film did so well in many other areas.
So good of Portman to fix the autocue script. Sure, the Greta Gerwig-directed Saoirse Ronan wins Best Actress for her performance in the Greta Gerwig-directed Best Picture ‘Lady Bird’… but no way should Greta Gerwig be nominated for Best Director pic.twitter.com/NxCVwskIPm

This year, stars opted to wear black to take part in an anti-harassment protest in light of recent allegations made against peopole in Hollywood.
The movement named ‘Time’s Up’ was organised by a large group of women in the industry and aims to tackle workplace sexual discrimination and inequality.
Many viewers felt this year would have been high-time to celebrate talented and deserving women in Hollywood, including female directors who are known for being underrepresented in the industry.
