Here’s what we’re watching in February

Spring has sprung. Technically…

But we’re still going to be sitting inside in front of the telly. We might venture out to the cinema.

So here’s what we’ll be watching this month.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Set at the birth of Instagram, Apple Cider Vinegar follows two young women who set out to cure their life-threatening illnesses through health and wellness, influencing their global online communities along the way. All of which would be incredibly inspiring if it were all true.

This is a true-ish story based on a lie, about the rise and fall of a wellness empire; the culture that built it up and the people who tore it down.

Netflix, February 6th

Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy

Bridget is alone once again, widowed four years ago, when Mark was killed on a humanitarian mission in the Sudan.

She’s now a single mother to 9-year-old Billy and 4-year-old Mabel, and is stuck in a state of emotional limbo, raising her children with help from her loyal friends and even her former lover, Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant).

The White Lotus

The White Lotus is back for a third season and this time they’re in Thailand.

This season follows the exploits of various guests and employees over the span of a week, portrayed by an all-star cast.

The White Lotus’ guest list includes Michelle Monaghan, Carrie Coon and Leslie Bibb as three long-time friends on a girls’ trip, Walton Goggins and Aimee Lou Wood as a rugged man with a chip on his shoulder travelling with his free-spirited girlfriend, Jason Isaacs and Parker Posey as a wealthy couple vacationing with their three children, and sole returning cast member Natasha Rothwell as Belinda, the spa manager from The White Lotus’ Hawaii location.

Love Hurts

Marvin Gable, a realtor working the Milwaukee suburbs, where ‘For Sale’ signs bloom. Gable receives a crimson envelope from Rose a former partner-in-crime that he had left for dead. She’s not happy.

Now, Marvin is thrust back into a world of ruthless hitmen, filled with double-crosses and open houses turned into deadly warzones. With his brother Knuckles, a volatile crime lord, hunting him, Marvin must confront the choices that haunt him and the history he never truly buried.

A Thousand Blows

From the mind of Peaky Blinders, this new series takes viewers back to the brutal East End of London in the 1880s.

Hezekiah Moscow and Alec Munroe, best friends from Jamaica, find themselves thrust into the criminal underbelly of London’s thriving bare-knuckle boxing scene. As Hezekiah finds fortune and fame through the art of pugilism, he attracts the attention of the infamous Queen of the Forty Elephants, Mary Carr, who sets about exploiting his talents to further her criminal enterprise.

Meanwhile the menacing and self-declared emperor of the East End boxing world, Sugar Goodson, determines to destroy Hezekiah whose ambitions to fight in the West End threaten everything he has built. What ensues is a battle of the old world against the new.

Bring Them Down

Barry Keoghan returns to the big screen in this new film.

Michael, the last son of a farming family, lives an isolated existence with his ailing, cantankerous father Ray. Burdened by a terrible secret from his past, Michael has isolated himself from the world and dedicates himself to his prized flock.

When the ongoing conflict with rival farmer Gary and his wayward and unpredictable son Jack (Barry Keoghan) stirs old tensions and grievances, it triggers a chain of events that take increasingly violent and devastating turns, leaving both families permanently altered.

Zero Day

Robert De Niro stars in this political thriller.

Zero Day asks the question on everyone’s mind — how do we find truth in a world in crisis, one seemingly being torn apart by forces outside our control?

And in an era rife with conspiracy theory and subterfuge, how much of those forces are products of our own doing, perhaps even of our own imagining?

Netflix, February 20th

To A Land Unknown

The stakes couldn’t be higher for displaced Palestinian refugees Chatila and Reda in this knife-edge drama.

The cousins are saving to pay for fake passports to get out of Athens, but when Reda loses their hard-earned cash to his drug addiction, Chatila hatches an extreme plan to pose as smugglers in an attempt to get them out of their desperate situation before it is too late.

Small Town, Big Story

Wendy Patterson, a local girl who found success as a TV producer in Los Angeles returns to her small Irish town, Drumbán after over 20 years, having left under something of a cloud.

Back in the chaotic microcosm of Drumbán, this time with a film crew in tow, Wendy is caught between her past and her epic new production. Séamus Proctor is the local doctor, a respected pillar of the community.

He has a neat and well-ordered life, or at least he thinks he does. Soon he will find himself in the eye of a storm as a celluloid circus descends, which threatens to blow open a secret he has been harbouring since the Millennium.

Celebrity Bear Hunt

Holly Willoughby hosts this action-packed competition show that sees a group of unlikely celebrities, including our very own Una Healy, dropped into the Central American jungle as prey for one of the world’s most fearsome predators – Bear Grylls.  

Bear believes there’s an action hero inside us all – even the celebs – but how strong is their will to survive?

As Bear puts them through their paces, those who fail to impress will face the dreaded ‘Bear Hunt’ – a brutal game of cat and mouse where they’ll be hunted down by Bear himself and, if captured, face elimination from the show.
