With festivals running rife this summer and so too our holidays abroad, keeping you hair in order can be a tricky one.

To help you out, Great Lengths have shared their guide to a perfect “fishtail plait” which will not only keep your hair off your face, but also look elegant and lovely and last you all day/night.

You will need a paddle brush, a light finishing spray, and a bobbin or ribbon- that’s it! Oh and maybe an obliging friend to help out…

Great Lengths 'Get the Look' Festival (Fishtail) CCStep One
Brush the hair thoroughly to remove all knots.
Take a section of hair from the centre-crown and split this into two parts.

Step two
Hold the two pieces of hair, one in each hand, and then take a smaller portion of hair away from the edge of the left part and cross over to join the other part. Sound good so far?

Step three
Now do the exact same but with opposite side and do this three or four times, each side. Then you can start integrating additional hair from the side of the head to gradually thicken up the main plait.

Step four
Make sure that the additional portions of hair that you are adding from each side are even and continue the process until you reach the nape of the neck. All of the hair should now be integrated into the plait. Continue with the plaiting process.

Step five
Secure the plait with your bobbin or ribbon and you can tease out some of the hair if you would prefer a softer finish. Spritz with your finished to hold in place.
