Evanna Lynch has posted an emotional tribute to her late Harry Potter co-star Alan Rickman, who sadly passed away yesterday at the age of 69 after losing his battle with cancer.
The Louth native spoke about her experience working with the talented actor, and recalled some of the times they shared together on her Facebook page, admitting that she was once terrified of him. Alan played Severus Snape in the Harry Potter films, and terrifying – but brilliant – he was!
“I don’t have many stories to share about Alan Rickman because, truthfully, I was terrified of him as Snape and throughout the course of the films I always gave him a wide berth. But I wanted to share the brief but significant encounters I had with him.”
The 24-year-old, who played Luna Lovegood in the films, explained that it wasn’t until a couple of years later that she really got to know the actor. She was sat next to him at a charity dinner and he gave her the best piece of acting advice she’s ever received.
“He said not to worry about getting ‘there’ and instead to focus on feeding my soul and following my heart from place to place. And then he gave me the loveliest acting advice I’ve ever gotten. ‘People think that they’re watching this’ he said waving his hand in front of his face, ‘but really they’re watching this’ and he pounded his fist on his heart centre.”
Evanna ends her heart breaking tribute by asking that we all continue to share stories about Alan so that his memory will live on.
“Please honour his memory and what he gave us by talking about and sharing stories and continuing to celebrate his legacy so then he will be here, as we like to say, ‘Always’.”
