The former Love Island winner and current Olympian has shared that he’s not completely finished with his television career.
Greg O’Shea sprung to fame when he entered the Love Island Villa and ended up winning the show with his then partner Amber Rose Gill. After the show Greg and Amber split, Greg stepped back from the spotlight returning to his first passion, Rugby as well as finishing his law exams.
Speaking to the Daily Mail about his decision not to take the “celebrity route” Greg said, “Love Island is great but you’ve got to realise what it is — it’s a reality TV show so you can’t just base your whole life around it.”
“I don’t know if that’s an Irish thing in that I have always been told, ‘No, you have to get your qualifications, you have to get your degree, you have to work hard,’ so that has always just been my decision and it’s what feels right.”
Greg is now in Tokyo playing for the Irish Rugby Sevens team in the 2020 Olympics. He told the Daily Mail this was a dream come true.
“It’s a dream come true. With me personally it’s all I have attempted to do since the Sevens became an Olympic sport back in 2016.”
“Since then I have just been saying, ‘I have to go to the Olympics’. It is the pinnacle of sport.”
“Every sport in the world and every person in the world knows what the Olympics is, so to play with my mates and get the recognition of being Olympians is unbelievable.”
Although the Olympics is his top priority right now, he isn’t opposed to taking a step back into the world of television once he’s home.
“I absolutely loved doing TV and radio…I never in a million years thought I’d enjoy presenting so I will definitely try my hand at that again if there’s anyone looking for a young fella to do some presenting roles,” he said.
“I think I would like to get back on TV as well…Maybe do a show like I’m a Celebrity… or Strictly or something like that,” he added.
We would love to see Greg take to the jungle or the dance floor, but first we will be supporting him as he takes to the pitch in the Olympics, best of luck lads!
