Fair City star, George McMahon recently welcomed his second child into the world with his wife, Rachel. Speaking at the launch of RTE’s new season the actor spoke about how they were adjusting going from one child to two, as well as how being a father has had an impact on his work.
George has been on Fair City for twenty years, and has been a father in the show for a large portion of that time. Now a Dad in real life too he spoke about how it changed how he approached his character.
“I suppose that having just the life experience to bring to your character really does change an awful lot. Even the way I play Mundo, the character has changed since I’ve had kids myself, and it’s I suppose there’s more empathy, and more of a connection.”
Continuing he added; “I’m playing a father in Fair City, and I suppose it has helped me bring a little bit more truth to my performance, and it certainly changed how I approach and prepare for the scenes.”
Opening up about how the family are adjusting to baby number two he said he’s in awe of those that can keep going and have a third; “Going from one kid to two kids, even walking down the road and I see people with three kids and I go ‘Oh my God, how can you go again’.”
Now the couple’s little one Kody is two months old and George shared that those first few weeks were a whirlwind; “I’d say for the first four weeks we were just completely overwhelmed with the exhaustion, and I think now the exhaustion has either improved, or we’re getting used to it!”
“Either way, and we’re kind of finding a rhythm now,” he added.
For George and his wife, Rachel, they were already parents to little Frankie before welcoming baby Kody into the world in June of this year.
Sharing the news to social media, alongside a snap of the newborn’s tiny hand, he said; “Yesterday our lives changed again for the better.”
“We welcomed Kody Bloom McMahon to the world. We are bursting with love.”
