Rugby commentator and well known personality George Hook is furious with TV3, following an intense interview with Collette Fitzpatrick.
George appeared on The Late Review with newly announced Newstalk presenter, Collette, to discuss the upcoming Rugby World Cup. However, the interview became heated when Collette accused the 74-year-old of being controversial for the sake of it and to wind people up.
“Theres a difference now between speaking your mind and being controversial and saying things for the sake of winding people up, and you like it,” she said.
George fought back at these allegations claiming that they were “outrageous”, and has since stated that he feels as though TV3 were trying to set him up.
“The programme tried to set me up. They asked me to come on the show and talk about an abusive letter I received and to talk about the Rugby World Cup,” he said.
He also claimed that the TV3 anchor was calling him a fake and questioning his integrity.
“It was a cheap shot at me. I was outraged. It was a hatchet-job” he told the Sun newspaper.
A TV3 spokesperson has since spoken out and said that George knew ahead of the show what was going to be discussed: “George was informed about what was going to be discussed before appearing on the show.”
