The news broke following a “freak accident” in December 2022, where two surgeries had to be performed on the broadcaster’s hands, keeping him in hospital until the New Year.
Gareth, his wife Paula, and his stepdaughter were three of the four passengers in the car when the collision took place on Horgan’s Quay, Co. Cork.
With severe injuries including a broken back bone and a ruptured lung, Gareth shares that his healing journey has not been easy.
The Classic Hits FM DJ recently took to social media to give an update on his mental and physical well-being since the accident.
He wrote: “My body won’t ever be the same again. Pain, PTSD, it’s awful beyond words. Needed to share tonight. Inner strength is what’s keeping us going.”
He revealed that he and his wife are in a low place and that the road to recovery has been a great struggle for them both, “having a very hard time getting over the car crash last March. My poor wife is struggling, and we take every day, one day at a time, together”.
He has shown his utmost gratitude to his loving wife, Paula who has devoted her time to supporting her husband in his rehabilitation and in learning to walk again.
“This is the woman who has saved my life after a car crash that keeps on hurting us both in every way… My love and my soulmate,” he wrote.
