St Brigid’s Day is fast approaching. And the woman herself deserves all the excitement and celebration.
It’s been a long time coming!
Instead of sitting in over the bank holiday weekend, here are five St Brigid’s Day events happening around the country that you, your family or your friends can take part in!
Dublin

From Friday 31st of January to Monday 3rd of February 2025, Dublin City Council are proudly returning Brigit: Dublin City Celebrating Women.
The events have been taking place since 2022 however, this year they have their largest line-up of events yet with over 80 taking place over the weekend. The aim of the event is to showcase the many different contributions women have made to Irish society and culture over the years and of course, to celebrate St. Brigid herself.
This year, they have partnered with Jill & Gill in making St. Brigid-designed t-shirts and sweatshirts. The events take place all across Dublin and have a wide range of different activities including, Brigids Through the Centuries: Some lesser-known Irish Women in history, The Forgotten Women of the 1916 Rebellion, Brigid’s Cross & Brídeog workshop, Film screenings, Forging Claddagh rings, Cycle to Brigid’s well and much more! Kildare

Brigid, Spirit of Kildare Festival takes place all around Co. Kildare every year and includes a variety of different events that help us commemorate St. Brigid, “Her Spirit, Our Story”.
The Festival was built off of Brigid 1500 in hopes of engaging with a different crowd on a deeper level and providing a diverse line-up of events that will engage with communities, artists, and global audiences. The aim of the festival is to keep St. Brigid’s story and spirit alive in a creative and cultural way.
Some of the events the festival has in store for January/February 2025 include, Craft workshops, Nothing Compares: A Celebration of Irish Women Artists, Warriors! Celebrating Irish sportswomen, Candlelit pilgrimage from Allen to Crosspatrick (Graveyard), Brigid’s spring parade and much more! You can find all the information about these events here.
Louth

This St. Brigid’s Day you should visit the birthplace of Brigid, Co. Louth. To honour St. Brigid’s legacy, from Saturday 1st till Thursday 6th of February the county has an assortment of events to choose from.
Some of these events include a candlelit procession to Faughart graveyard, The Northern lights celebrating Brigid at Market Square in Dundalk, Crios belt weaving, a Pilgrimage walk from the hill of Faughart to Dundalk and much more!

Roscommon

From the 28th of January until the 5th of February 2025, Strokestown Park, Rathcroghan, and Keenans of Tarmonbarry are collaborating to bring Brigid’s Awakening Festival to Co. Roscommon.
The festival aims to celebrate Brigid in her earliest form, Brigid the goddess. The full schedule for this festival is not ready to be shared yet however, the coordinators have shared that many cultural events and performances will take place including pieces by Francis Crowe, Margo Nulty, Lea Farrell, Olena Kosalevych and also historical talks and some short plays.
As part of the festival, Strokestown House will be illuminated with visuals of art from local schools along with a shadow puppetry show. We will also see the unveiling of Ireland’s largest-ever St. Brigid’s cross by the bridge of Tarmonbarry.
The unveiling will be followed by a performance of Tarmonbarry Players’ original song ‘Brigid’s Cloak’. You can find further information about the festival on their social media and here.
Galway

If you’re in the Galway area on the second of February you should book in to celebrate St. Brigid’s day at Brigid’s Garden! There are two free workshops teaching you how to make your own Brigid’s Cross and Brídeog.
The aim of these lessons is to honour St. Brigid and bring the Irish community together to celebrate her. The workshops are open to all ages and different craft skill levels.
There is no charge for these workshops however, donations are accepted to support Brigid’s Garden and are greatly appreciated! You can find all the information you need on these workshops here.
