Earlier this year it was announced that a Roy Keane film is in the works.
It won’t be a biopic about his life, instead, it focuses on the 2002 World Cup and the infamous “Saipan Incident”.
Hence the name, Saipan.
And now we’ve gotten our first look at the flick.
Cork native Éanna Hardwicke plays Roy with English actor Steve Coogan taking on the role of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy.
The first look sees Éanna completely transformed into the Cork legend as he sits in a the changing room in a tense moment with Steve as Mick.
We really can’t wait for this film!
The synopsis reads: “Saipan is the thrilling story of soccer player Roy Keane and his manager Mick McCarthy and the events leading up to Ireland’s incendiary 2002 World Cup campaign. The intense rivalry between these two personalities transcended the game and gripped an entire nation and the sporting world.
“On the surface, the feud was all about standards, but deep down it was a hugely emotive story of two men whose rivalry and contempt came to surpass the sport they loved. A true-life comedy of the most epic proportions. This is the definitive account of one of the most fractious falling-outs in the history of sport.”
The film is set for release in 2025.
