Fair City is heading overseas to Scotland. Scottish television channel STV2 has acquired the rights to 400 episodes of the soap.
The new channel is set to launch later this month and viewers will be made familiar with Fair City through a 30 minute documentary before it takes to air.
The soap will be one of the station’s main dramas. Films, foreign language programmes and crime documentaries will also feature.
Director of Channels at STV Elizabeth Partyka said of their new acquisition, “STV2 will feature a great mix of entertainment, news, drama and local events, and Fair City will be a key part of this distinct and diverse schedule.”
This is an exciting step for Fair City, which has been on Irish screens for over 25 years. It is the most watched drama in Ireland, with an average viewership of 550,000.
