Ever since RTE announced that they would be replacing The Voice of Ireland with Dancing with the Stars as their big Sunday night entertainment show this autumn, there has been a frenzy of speculation as to who might take part. Pippa O’Connor and Roz Purcell have already been widely tipped to participate, but without any official announcement yet to be made.
Today, however, an insider source in the station suggested that Gary and Paul O’Donovan, who have captured the nation’s hearts not just with their incredible Olympic silver medal, but also the hilariou interviews they’ve given to the world’s press, could be contestants. “Anything is possible,” said the RTE source. Producers look at all sorts of different people. They will be definitely looking at people from the world of sport. You can’t rule anything out.”
So with that exciting news in mind, we here in VIP Towers decided to suggest not only what the O’Donovans might look like if they took part, but also come up with three other couples we feel would take the show by storm.
First up is Brian Ormond and Pippa O’Connor, known to all as ‘Brippa’. The power couple are obvious candidates, given the fact that Pippa has already said she’d love to do it, and Brian’s background in the music industry. We’d just love to see them go head to head!
Next, for the older audience, would be the dream pairing of George Hook and Anne Doyle. George has proven himself to be a good sport in the past, and the sight of him in spandex is something that’s bound to boost viewership figures. And as for the lovely Anne – if he dance moves are anywhere near as graceful as her speech, then she’d be a hot favourite to win!
As two people who’ve already had to dance on stage, the duo of Emma O’Driscoll and Keith Duffy makes perfect sense. RTE presenter Emma started out in pop band Six, in which she displayed more than a few dance moves while Keith, on the other hand, has more than once being accused of being the member of Boyzone who couldn’t sing or couldn’t dance. Here’s his chance to prove the doubters wrong on at least one of those!
And finally, the O’Donovan brothers. We’re not sure how RTE would work out the logistics of having two men involved, but we’re feel that given the fact that the lads obviously don’t take themselves too seriously, neither would be bothered about having to slip into a slinky number!
If you ask us, this is a cracking line-up… Let the show begin!
