Cillian Murphy has had a busy year, from winning the Best Actor Oscar for his role in the smash-hit Oppenheimer to setting up his own production company Big Things Film, and now starring and producing his new film Steve along with filmmaker Alan Moloney.

The new film Steve which Murphy wrapped up filming in early July is based on the book Shy by Max Porter. The film is being produced under Cillian Murphy and Alan Maloney’s Big Things Film with Netflix.

In an interview with Deadline, Murphy mentioned that rather than the perspective being from that of the troubled teen, Shy as it was in the novel. The film will capture instead the perspective of the headteacher.

While the Tommy Shelby actor will take on the role of the head teacher, the role of the problematic teenager Shy will be taken on by Jay Lycurgo, known for his roles in The Batman and Titans.

The film will be directed by Tim Mielants who also directed Murphy and Moloney’s first film under their new production company called Small Things Like These.

Small Things Like These was the first film produced under the independent film production company Big Things Film.
