eir VIP Publishing Power of Women Awards 2023: Here are the nominees for the New Founder award, sponsored by Fenero

VIP Publishing is delighted to announce that the eir Power of Women Awards are back.

These awards celebrate the best and brightest female entrepreneurs in Ireland, across the worlds of fashion, technology, beauty, lifestyle, wellness and more!

The winners, decided by an expert panel and awarded at an exclusive lunch in Dublin’s Marker Hotel on November 17th, will be profiled in the December issue of VIP Magazine.

The New Founder award sponsored by Fenero celebrates entrepreneurs who have brought a dynamic, new business to the market in recent months.

Here’s a bit more information about our inspiring nominees…

Aoife Matthews, Jennifer O’Connell and Louise O’Riordan – Sisterly

Sisterly was founded by three friends, an investment banker, Aoife, a barrister, Jenny, and luxury brand developer, Louise.

The trio came together to create the brand when each found that there were no supplements on the market that catered specifically to their needs. Together they have brought together a formidable team of scientists, nutritionists and female health experts to develop The Elevator, a supplement focused on female health.

The three women see Sisterly as a labour of love and an opportunity to make something better that really works for women. With the brand taking off on this side of the pond, they’re working to launch in the USA in 2024.

Pauline Lowe and Sadbh Maguire – Candy Claw Clips

Childhood best friends Pauline and Sadbh were inspired by Scandi fashion to create their clip range. Pauline was living in Copenhagen when she fell in love with the idea of a bold and beautiful claw clip to really glam up their outfits.

Just like the name suggests, they wanted to “candify” the claw clip. They launched at the first birthday party for Greens Are Good for You, a clothing rental shop in Dublin, and have been a massive success ever since.

The clips are made from plant-based cellulose acetate, which is made from non-edible plants such as wood fibres and cotton. Impressively, the clips are also biodegradable. Their pieces can be found not only on their own website but the brand is also stocked in Brown Thomas.

Denise Walsh – Curly Co

Like most curly-haired people, Denise Walsh had been neglecting and mistreating her hair for years. However, she realised that she wanted to give her locks some TLC and set out on a path to embrace and care for her curls.

With over 25 years in the hairdressing field behind her, she was able to create a gorgeous collection that puts curls at the fore. Her journey led her to create Curly Co, a collection of defining and conditioning products to enhance all our curls.

Denise is passionate about making the best products to give people confidence and help them love their hair.

Karen Birney – Miss She’s Got Knits

Karen fell in love with knitting in primary school and turned her passion into a career. While her grá for the craft began at a young age, it wasn’t until she was in her twenties that she returned to it.

In 2020, she decided to create her brand and focus full-time on knitting and fashion design. Two years later, Karen is now aided by some very talented local knitters, including her own mother, who are as dedicated and passionate about creating beautiful knitwear as she is.

Each piece is made sustainably and hand-knit to order.

Jennifer Zamparelli & Bernadette Byrnes – HairPeople

Bernadette Byrnes and Jennifer Zamparelli joined forces to launch a female-founded hair philosophy which is embodied in their first salon, HairPeople. Jennifer’s years in the salon chair on sets as an actor and presenter and Bernadette’s experience behind it makes them the perfect team.

The brand focuses on client experience, equality, diversity and inclusion, and sustainability. These ideas are the foundation of their brand.

Both Bernadette and Jennifer have created a sustainable yet luxury hair salon with HairPeople. They have been nominated for the likes of L’Oréal Colour Trophy, and the Best Hair Salon in Ireland at the PBHJ Awards 2023.

Lisa Jordan – Edit Row

She’s no stranger to fashion as one of Ireland’s most successful influencers. And with her beauty brand, Lisa Jordan is also a force in the business world.

She stepped her toe into the world of fashion with Edit Row. Lisa wanted to create a brand that was cosy as well as luxurious – something we can all get on board with.

Lisa has worked with many international fashion labels over the years and is making a mark with Edit Row.

Kim O’Sullivan – Brow Aid

Kim has made her mark in the beauty industry with over 20 years of experience in the field. But now she has branched out into the consumer market.

Eight years ago she opened her own salon and became one of 64 Phibrows Grand Masters around the globe. Wanting to give the ability of incredible brows to every woman she set up Brow Aid.

The luxury brow products are formulated with the finest ingredients, carefully selected to nourish and enhance the overall health and well-being of your brows.

Judy Gilroy – Clossy

As a busy working mum, Judy was looking for clever organisational solutions to make her home and life run a little bit smoother. When she couldn’t find what she was looking for she was inspired to create it.

Clossy was born from this need. Clossy is a carefully curated collection of stylish organisational solutions, designed to help you make the most of your space.

Whether your home is big, small or even temporary our goal is to help you to calm the everyday chaos.
