Ed Sheeran has found himself at the centre of an unfortunate social media prank that’s seen him trending all over the world.
Radio One host Greg James started a hashtag today on Twitter that read ‘Sheeran Album Party’ in honour Ed’s new album, Divide, and it went viral for the most hilarious reason.
The same tag was used last year for Susan Boyle’s album launch, and it caused quite a stir. Although seemingly innocent, when the tag is written without capital letters it can spell something quite different!
On Twitter the radio host wrote, “In honour of #Susanalbumparty, we’re having an impromptu #Sheeranalbumparty. Gonna listen to some of Ed’s album #LOLathon.”
It wasn’t long before people all around the world were using the tag, and the Shape Of You singer didn’t mind being the butt of the joke- pardon the pun!
Although it was all fun and games, the hashtag also raised a lot of money for charity. BBC Radio One are currently running their Lol-a-thon for Red Nose Day and this funny tweet was all part of the fundraising. Well played guys!
