It’s Movie Week on Dancing with the Stars!

And the celebs are going all out for their favourite movies!

Following last week’s shock first elimination of comedian and actor Michael Fry and his pro partner Kylee Vincent, everything is still to play for. The eleven remaining couples will perform routines inspired by some of the biggest movies of all time.

Here’s how everyone got on!

Philip Doyle and Daniela Roze

Having long been told he resembles Clark Kent by his friends and family, rower Philip Doyle donned the famous red cape and spandex and dance Paso Doble to the Superman theme with his very own Lois Lane, pro dancer, Daniela Roze.

“You keep knocking it out of the park!” Oti told him. “What a way to open the show!”

They received three sevens and an eight from Arthur, giving them a total of 29.

“That was absolutely fabulous. You have the sparkle and the confidence,” Arthur enthused.

Following on from his low scores from the judges last week, Brian Kennedy and his pro dancer James Cutler returned to the ballroom with a dramatic Paso Doble with the title track from The Phantom of the Opera.

“It ended a little bit more ‘omph’ when it came to the Paso,” Karen told him, but said he brought the energy to the floor.

They received three fours and a three from Brian, meaning they received a total of 15.

We went back in the 1980s as Nationwide presenter Anne Cassin and her pro dancer Robert Rowiński donned the legwarmers for a Cha-cha-cha to Irene Cara’s ‘Fame’ from Fame.

“It felt like an 80s workout video. I’m definitely buying it. Just work on your legwork,” Arthur told her, while Brian said, “Nice Cha Cha, but I wanted more.”

They received two fours and two fives, meaning their total was 18.

Stephanie Kelly and Ervinas Merfeldas

We headed back to the 1970s when Fair City star Stephanie Kelly and her partner Ervinas Merfeldas became Danny and Sandy for a Quickstep to ‘You’re the One That I Want’ by John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John from Grease.

“You were completely in your element,” Arthur enthused, while Brian told her: “I think you’ve settled into the competition.”

Podcaster Amber Wilson and her partner Alex Vladimirov grabbed a wand and broomstick and hope to fly high on the scoreboard when they become Glinda and Elphaba with a Contemporary Ballroom to ‘For Good’ by Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo from the recent sequel Wicked: For Good.

“You’re getting there, it’s getting better, but you need to become even more independent,” Brian said, but Karen was quick to tell him, “It was far from terrible.”

They received two fives and two sixes, meaning they received a total of 22.

Paudie Moloney and Laura Nolan

Paudie yabba-dabba-did a Charleston with Laura Nolan to the theme from The Flintstones. It’s safe to say he embodied Fred Flintstone!

“There were a few little dodgy swivels. But it was bags of fun!” Karen said, while Oti said, “I would like to have seen a little bit more Charleston.”

They received fours from all the judges, bringing their total to 16.

Movie Week was especially meaningful for Eurovision winner Niamh Kavanagh, who danced a Foxtrot to ‘Destination Anywhere’ from The Commitments with her partner Stephen Vincent.

Niamh auditioned for a role in the film in the early 1990s and, while she missed out on appearing onscreen, her lead vocal featured prominently on the soundtrack. This Sunday marks a full-circle moment as she dances to her own vocals from the movie.

“You are turning into our little ball of diva,” Oti told her but adding that she wanted to “see more”.

She received a five from Brian and three sixes, meaning that she received a total of 23.

“Eric is back!” Arthur exclaimed, while Karen said, “It lacked a bit of technique but I felt like I was in the movie. I wanted to join you.”

The Apprentice UK star Jordan Dargan turned blue as he and partner, Rebecca Scott, danced Contemporary Ballroom to ‘Pandora’ the theme from Avatar.

“That performance really sees you take off in this competition. Overall a really nice performance,” Brian told them while Karen asked, “Are you a pro?”

Branded a “blockbuster” by Arthur, they received a seven from Brian and three nines bringing their total to 34.
