Donal Skehan shares emotional post on settling back into life in Ireland

Donal Skehan and his family recently made the move back to Ireland in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. He revealed recently that the family had already been planning to come back to Ireland, but current world events had forced them to take the leap earlier than they intended.

It’s been a bit of a struggle coming to terms with the last few months. Today was the day we had been due to fly home to Ireland before world events had different plans. We left LA in a crazy rush almost a month ago with so many mixed emotions, lots of stress and anxiety.”

The family were always very open about how much they loved their life in LA and Donal shared that he felt; “Relief to be close to family but heartbreak to say a weird hardened half goodbye to a city which gave us so much. The city changed our lives, gave us two beautiful little boys born there, some incredible friends and so many opportunities, all that we are so grateful for.”
“I know we’ll be back sooner rather than later for work and more, but in these strange times it feels further away than ever. For now though it’s bloody good to be home and Ireland will always be home, but a little part of us will always be in that sunny palm tree lined city.”
The chef had previously shared that “Since the start of this year we had been excitedly planning to head back home to Ireland to spend some time closer to family and friends.”

The couple had revealed it’s because they want to bring their children up near their friends and family; “We absolutely love it here but the urge to have the kids closer to family has always been strong.”

With the current coronavirus crisis, Donal shared last month that that they had been “advised by the Irish consulate here in LA to move home as soon as possible or risk cancelled flights and closed borders.” Planning this trip home was very stressful for the family, involving lots of packing and cancelled flights.

Thankfully they are now all home safe and sound.
