Doireann Garrihy has recalled a terrifying car accident she found herself in when her car flipped upside down.

Speaking to her friend Carl Mullan on his new podcast Phone Truths, Doireann shared how the accident felt something like out of a movie after she wrote off her car on the motorway almost ten years ago.

The presenter shared how she was heading down to Ennis in Clare from Dublin to teach a Speech and Drama class one cold morning in January.

“I was coming up towards Moneygall, Barack Plaza, iconic. And it started to sleet.

“I slowed down but not massively because the roads had been gritted and I thought, it’s just sleet it’s not serious snow,” she continued.

Suddenly Doireann remembered her back wheels going out of control, which she tried to compensate by going the other way.

As there was a hill to the left of her, her car went up to the top and flipped the whole way back down to the road.

“I landed on my side, so my door was on the ground and my passenger door was facing towards the sky.

Thankfully, there was a man nearby who who able to open her passenger door and lift Doireann out of the wrecked car.

And luckily, Doireann managed to escape without a single scratch on her!

“That man, I’ll never forget him,” Doireann noted.
