Doireann Garrihy has announced this morning that she is taking a break from her morning breakfast show on RTÉ 2FM.
Last month RTÉ announced that Eoghan McDermott would not be returning to the station, releasing a short statement; “RTÉ confirms that Eoghan McDermott will not be returning to RTÉ 2FM. His contract is due to expire shortly.”
There were no specific reasons given for his departure with the broadcaster simply revealing that; “RTÉ is developing a new direction for the 2FM Breakfast Show which will be revealed in the coming weeks.”

At the time RTÉ did confirm that Doireann Garrihy would remain on the show, and she has been managing on her own with some guest hosts, but has now shared that she is taking some time off herself.
Speaking on Instagram earlier, Doireann said; “Good morning and Happy Friday. At 9am this morning, I’m going to be leaving the studio and heading directly to what we like to call the 2FM radio idea factory.”
“Which is basically just my desk in 2FM but the factory thing sounded cooler. And I’m going to be doing what you would do in a radio ideas factory, particularly the breakfast show department. I’m gonna be trialling, testing and fine tuning a brand new breakfast show.”
While announcing this news, she also revealed who will be filling in on the show whilst she’s gone.
“While I’m gone for a few weeks, Tara Stewart and Stephen Byrne, they’re gonna be keeping you entertained in the mornings. And then I’ll be back.”
