Normal People has missed out at this year’s Golden Globes, as both awards went elsewhere.

The much-loved Irish drama was nominated for Best Television in a Limited Series, while Daisy Edgar-Jones was up for Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series.

Unfortunately on the night, Normal People lost out to The Queen’s Gambit and actress Anya Taylor-Joy who plays the lead in that show.

Normal People based on the best-selling book by Sally Rooney went down a treat with viewers right across the world when it aired last year.

A-list stars including Wionna Ryder, Katy Perry and Kourtney Kardashian are just some of the biggest names who tuned in and shared their adoration for the Irish show.

Set between Sligo and Dublin, it followed the lives of two young adults, Marianne (Daisy Edgar-Jones) and Conall (Paul Mescal) as they finished school and started college, facing various personal – and professional – obstacles along the way.

Following the instant success of Normal People, Sally’s award-winning debut novel Conversations with Friends is also set to be adapted for the screen.

Alison Oliver, an emerging talent from Lir Academy (whose graduates include Normal People’s Paul Mescal) will play Frances in the new show.

Sasha Lane (American Honey, The Miseducation of Cameron Post) will star as Bobbi, Joe Alwyn (The Favourite, Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk) as Nick and Jemima Kirke (Sex Education, Girls) as Melissa.

Conversations with Friends follows Frances (Alison Oliver), a 21-year-old college student, as she navigates a series of relationships that force her to confront her own vulnerabilities for the first time.

Filming will take place this year in Dublin, Belfast and international locations yet to be confirmed, with the Oscar-nominated director at the helm of Normal People, Lenny Abrahamson returning and sharing the directorial duties with Leanne Welham.

It’s set to air next year.
