Last night saw the hilarious cast of Channel 4’s Northern Irish comedy show, Derry Girls appear on The Late Late Show – and viewers absolutely loved them!
The actors were chatting to Ryan about the huge success of the show, that centres around a group of school friends growing up in Northern Ireland during The Troubles.
With the hugely anctipiated season two about to hit our screens, Galway girl Nicola Coughlan shared the hilarious story of how she called on inspiration from real life Derry Girl Nadine Coyle to bag the role of Clare Devlin.
“The only person I could think of from Derry was Nadine Coyle, and the only thing I could think of was her losing her passport on Popstars.” Nicola told Ryan Tubridy;
“It was like the biggest scandal. I remember it in secondary school.”
“I also delivered that speech verbatim in the audition. Like no one wanted me to do it, but you know when you’re nervous?”

With Derry Girls fever taking over the whole country, is there a big screen version of the show in the works?
Comedian Tommy Teirnan, who plays dad Gerry on the show, recently hinted at a movie being on the cards.
“We finished filming the second series (of Derry Girls) last Friday so that’ll go out in March”, he said.
“We’re doing season 3 and then a film maybe”.
While we haven’t yet seen what adventures the gang get up to in the new seasons, we just know the heartwarming and hilarious show would make a brilliant feature film!
