Dermot Kennedy is preparing to release his new album, The Weight of the Woods, this week.
He surprised a select few fans with a beautiful concert amongst the forest in Beyond the Trees in Avondale.
Those in attendance got to listen to his new album before the Dublin native came out for a surprise performance.
Speaking at the event, he spoke about his pride in getting to play at home in Ireland.

“I remember when I started getting any sort of traction and being able to play shows anywhere. I played an awful lot of shows outside of the country. I was always determined to be able to play the same size venue no matter where I was in the world,” he explained.
“It was funny when I did quite a bit of that in the US and all around Europe, I was like, ‘I hope people at home don’t think that’s not the centre of everything of me.’
“I remember I came back years ago, I played Longitude. The tent was rammed. I felt that support in a very real way for the first time. It was the most beautiful sort of reassuring thing and I’ll never forget that.”

He also shared his nerves about releasing a new album.
“You release an album, and it’s excitement mixed with self-doubt, mixed with ‘Is it good?’, mixed with a lot of different things. I’m just looking forward to being on the other side of that and for this music to actually live in the world.”
The Weight of the Woods releases on Friday, 27th March
