Deirdre O’Kane has chosen to keep her children out of the public eye throughout her career.
The comedian opted to keep them away from the showbiz world but her efforts all seem for naught.
Her daughter, Holly, is now following in Deirdre’s footsteps.
The teenager has enrolled in drama school. With a comedian and actor for a mother and a film-maker and writer for a father what chance did she have?
“What can you do? I did my best to steer her out of the industry; I did everything I could,” Deirdre told the RTÉ Guide.
“But it’s in the walls, there’s no avoiding it. I have hopes for my son that he’ll get a salaried job.”
Despite her jokes, she is one hundred per cent in her daughter’s corner.
“The highs are very high and the lows are very low. You really have to navigate it and you have to have the personality to navigate the life, and that’s a fine line to walk.
“If you’re too sensitive for it, you can take a hammering and I’ve seen a lot of people take a hammering. It’s not for the fainthearted.”
We can’t wait to see Holly explode onto the scene.
