2023 really is the year of the Irish and we couldn’t be more proud.
With the likes of Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, Kerry Condon and Jessie Buckley waving the Irish flag in the award ceremonies, we thought we couldn’t get any more Irish on the ballots.
Now Tipperary actor Daryl McCormack has nabbed a very highly coveted BAFTA nomination this week.
He has been nominated for the Rising Star Award at this year’s British Academy Film Awards – the BAFTAs.

Daryl is best known for his work in Peaky Blinders, Wheel of Time and Bad Sisters. He got his start in Fair City, of course!
In 2022, he made his breakthrough big-screen role alongside Emma Thompson in comedy-drama Good Luck to You, Leo Grande.
He was nominated for the Rising Star along with Naomi Ackie (Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody), Sheila Atim (The Woman King), Aimee Lou Wood (Living) and Emma Mackey (Emily).
It’s a pretty impressive list.

The EE Rising Star Award is the only category at the BAFTAs that is voted for by the public.
Previous winners include Tom Holland, Tom Hardy, John Boyega and Letitia Wright.
We’ll be waiting with bated breath.
The full list of BAFTA nominations will be announced this Thursday before the actual award ceremony which takes place in London on Sunday 19th February.
