Daniel O’Donnell, a self-confessed fan of Strictly Come Dancing, has announced that he’ll be competing in the upcoming series of the talent show.

The singer showcased a few moves this week when he danced during the Rose of Tralee festival, and has admitted that the level of dancing needed for Strictly will be a challenge for him.

Speaking to BBC Radio 2, Daniel said, “I can dance, but don’t ask me to be in a certain place at a certain time – this is going to be very hard for me. God help whoever gets me.”

He went on to say, “I don’t know if I’m as good as I need to be, but I’m going to try. There’s a lot of rehearsals and physical work which I’m not used to.”

“It’s exciting and quite an honour to be asked because there’s so many people that could be asked,” he said.

Despite having his hands full, juggling his career and helping out with his new grandchild, Daniel admitted that his wife Majella pushed him to take part in this series of the show: “She said, ‘You can have time off any time. Don’t miss this!'”

So far the other confirmed acts taking part include Peter Andre, Coronation Street star Georgia May Foote and newsreader Katie Derham.
