Dáithí O’Sé: ‘Nothing will ever come near being a dad’

"Forget about all the horror stories, it’s all lies, it is bullshit."

Rose of Tralee 2016 Photocall

Dáithí O’Sé has opened up about being dad to his son Michael Óg.

The TV host revealed that his fame doesn’t mean much to his five-year-old son.

When it comes to seeing his daddy on TV, Dáithí told VIP Magazine that the little fella is not too impressed.

“He says turn off Daddy’s show, ‘I want to watch Paw Patrol!’ [laughs] So that’s usually the kind of thing that happens,” he told VIP exclusively.

However, when the little boy is involved in the action, he’s more than happy.

“But when he comes down to the studio he loves it, I’ve pictures with him on stage for the Rose since he was born. He didn’t want to leave last year he loves it! He thinks everyone’s Dad’s on tv because I’m on tv.”

Dáithí and his wife former rose Rita Talty recently celebrated their sixth anniversary of marriage.

So what’s the Kerryman’s secret to success?

“There’s few things right. Newlyweds reading this, take note,” he began.

“People will ask you when you are having children and after a while, you will get so sick of it. All I am saying is, take a deep breath, they don’t mean any harm in asking that. If you have a first child they’re going to asking when there’s a second one coming, don’t take offence they mean well. These are the things. And if you’re expecting a child you’ll hear all these horror stories about sleepless nights and everything. It is bullshit,” he admitted.

The presenter added that fatherhood has been incredibly special and ‘the best feeling in the world.’

“There is nothing nicer than walking into the room and seeing your child looking up at you. It is the best thing ever. If the child is crying, it’s either wind or the child needs to poop and you learn very very fast, believe me.”

“There’s nothing better than having a child so forget about all the horror stories, it’s all lies, it is bullshit. It is the best feeling in the world…nothing will ever come near it. So enjoy every minute of it!”
