Unfortunately for Dáithí Ó Sé he has revealed that he tested positive for Covid-19 over the weekend. Sharing an update from home the presenter said; “So good people at the weekend I tested positive for Covid-19 after avoiding it for almost two years.”
However he also revealed that his symptoms haven’t been too bad; “I feel fluey and achey and I’ve pains, I can’t taste anything or smell much but other than that I’m fine.”
“Anyway I thought I’d just let ye all know and I’ll be back hopefully on The Today Show next week,” he added.
Dáithí also shared who would be filling in for him whilst he’s isolating at home, and we can expect to see Derek Mooney and Marty Morrissey taking the reins for the next week or so.
Last year Dáithí Ó Sé opened up about owkring with his co-host, Maura Derrane. Together they have hosted RTE’s Today Show for close to ten years and he says that although the two are most certainly friends, they don’t feel the need to live in one another’s pockets outside of working hours, unlike some TV co-hosts.
“When I finish the run in May, I won’t speak with Maura again until a week or so before we go back on air in September,” he told the RTE Guide.
Explaining that they both enjoy their own free time away from one another, he continued: “We are never in each other’s pockets and we’ve never pretended to be best friends, hanging out with each other after work and all that”
“The only time we spend together is the time in rehearsal or live on the show and that has worked for both of us.”
Maura agrees with this sentiment, and believes that the key to their good on-screen relationship is the similar upbringings they had in rural Gaeltacht Ireland; “We are very different but come from similar backgrounds”
“In a way we are both messers and he could say anything to me and I wouldn’t be offended.”
