Over the last few weeks, Colin Farrell has been discussing why he took part in the Dublin Marathon.

The Hollywood star ran the iconic race to raise money for Irish charity, Debra.

Originally he had hoped to raise €400,000 for the charity that helps Irish people living with Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB), a rare genetic skin condition.

EB is a group of rare medical conditions that result in easy blistering of the skin and mucous membranes. Blisters occur with minor trauma or friction and are painful. Its severity can range from mild to fatal.

But after he crossed the finish line on Sunday he managed to raise over €800,000 for the cause.

Colin Farrell triumphantly pushed pal Emma Fogarty over the Dublin Marathon finish line on Sunday and declared: “She is what courage is all about.”

The Hollywood A-lister was among 22,500 athletes who raced to finish the 42km run in a time of 4:06:45.

“I have known Emma for many years and she epitomises bravery, she is what courage and pure determination are all about,” Colin explained after he crossed the finish line.

“That run was nothing compared to the pain she is forced to endure every single day, even though she doesn’t show it. It was an honour to see her waiting for me with 4km to go, each of those representing a decade of her life, and to do the final stretch together. I’ll never forget it.”

Emma added: “This was a dream come true for me and I want to thank Colin, who has been the most supportive, generous and loyal friend I could wish for.

“He has always shown his compassion and empathy for people living with EB and is true champion in my eyes. Running a marathon is never easy but once he committed to it there was no going back, he is a man of his word.”

Colin hopes to raise €1 million for the charity, at time of publishing they had raised €803,965.
